Essential Tips for Self-Defense and Personal Safety

Kimberly Peverell

❤️ Self defense training 💪🏼

As a former boxer and boxing coach, I’ve trained hundreds of individuals in both combat and protective fighting techniques. And the common factors for success when faced with situations that require physical attention are training with both simplicity and repetition.

Often I watch self defense trainings that require too much thought and action. “Step heel, slide, push off, double down and punch upward.” 😐 🙄this is a reciepe for disaster when being placed in a unique defensive position.

To be honest, and nearly every fighter will tell you — the first couple fights are a blur. The speed is different than training. The adrenaline is different than training. The mind races. The first couple fights are more about controlling your breathing and adrenaline then they are technique.

And that’s for TRAINED fighters — never mind for a civilian being physically engaged out of the blue. There is panic, there is worry..

What there is NOT is the sterile environment of a studio or gym with planned measures and counters.

No one remembers A seven step approach to placing an assailant to the ground and removing their weapon. No one. And in fact, the very attempt might ultimately be detrimental to the individual’s safety.

The key to safety is situational awareness, simplicity in the approach, and repetition.

Self defense personal training at Burn offers and incorporates some easy to understand self defense techniques and strategies. And we ingrain it with repetition so that it becomes natural.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Tips and Tactics 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

In a recent study of 1000 women nationwide, a vast majority had encountered some form of unacceptable and unwelcome physical harassment.

While it is not possible to put an end to this abhorrent behavior, there are various tactics that you can employ that can help give you an edge when faced with a concerning or even outright dangerous situation.

Attackers look for the weak, the vulnerable, and the distracted as prey. So the first step is removing these three criminal focuses.

🔥 Remove distractions.

Pay attention to how deeply you are immersed in your phone. Be aware of your surroundings and keep your head and eyes up.

🔥 Remove the situations that put you in a vulnerable position.

When walking at night, stay in well lit areas. Keep near people that you know and trust. And avoid reaching a level of inebriation that could give an attacker or abuser the ability to gain control over you.

🔥 Strengthen your position and remove weakness.

Weakness is not always about physical strength. You can remove weakness and at the same time increase your self confidence by learning and practicing a safety strategy through a self defense course.

Being equipped to handle a potential assault, having a plan, and using any means at your disposal, creates a stronger position for you — removing the elements that can allow an attacker to force his will on you.
